Brian Kershisnik – Learning to Dance

December 21, 2010

Did I mention we got an original Brian Kershisnik? Okay, okay, so it’s not an oil painting. It’s a transfer drawing, which is cool, because if you turn it over, there’s a drawing on the back. I’ve done some transfer drawings of my own, and I really like the result. You do a drawing on paper. Then you roll a thin layer of paint or ink onto a smooth surface like plexiglass. Then you put your drawing on the plexiglass, drawing side away from the ink or paint. You trace the drawing, lift it away, and voila! It’s kind of a mix between painting and drawing, and it also feels a lot like an intaglio print. Okay, I didn’t explain it very well here–maybe I’ll post a better explanation with visuals at a later date. In the meantime, thank you Mr. Kershisnik!
